Honey is one of the three most fake foods in the world (1).
The value of honey globally is over 90 billion SEK in 2022, rising to 260 billion SEK in 2028.(2-7) Great value is being damaged for both consumers and producers by the fraudulent handling of a unique commodity.
Combining new technologies can create an objective chain of evidence with data from the beekeeper to the consumer. The origin will now be validated in a way that cannot be manipulated. The novelty is that for the first time an objective chain of evidence can be created that gives the consumer confidence and the producer added value and protection against dishonest competition.

Those tools combine the unique BeeScanning app with its infrastructure that allows for starting a secure blockchain of events using the camera and metadata collected when honey is harvested.

An innovation group consisting of BeeScanning Global AB, FoodChain by BlockChain AB, Sveriges Biodlares Riksförbund, Swedish Commercial Beekeepers association, E-sense AB and SLU, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, has been initiated with the support of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. Next step, is a project application formulated with the aim of submitting it at the beginning of 2023. The project's ambition is to have a finished product by the end of 2024.
