Fake honey has become one of the biggest threats to beekeeping and consumer confidence. EU audits show that a very large part of imported honey is adulterated – mixed with sugar solutions and syrup. This is pushing down prices and making it difficult for serious beekeepers to survive.
In order for trade in Sweden and internationally to be able to take responsibility, we need a clear and common definition of what is real honey – and a model for traceability and control.
Therefore, we are inviting beekeepers to an expert group that will:
Define requirements for what should apply to real honey.
Discuss traceability, labeling and transparency.
Develop proposals for the trade and the industry.
Strengthen the position of beekeepers in an increasingly tough market.
We are looking for participants with different backgrounds – small-scale and larger beekeepers, regardless of whether you sell directly to customers or via wholesalers. The broader the experience, the stronger the voice.
👉 Register your interest via info@beescanning.com. Please give a bit about you experience; number of colonies and years, other relevant info.
Let’s set the standard for real honey together. 🌍🍯
